Tuesday Group Ride

This was my first time riding with a group.  It wasn't much of a group, just the ride leader and one other guy on a recumbent.  We rode out of Bike Works bike shop in Dewitt.  The ride is geared towards beginners.  The ride leader points out tips with form and helps with the ins and outs of group riding.  He taught me the safe way to grab another riders wheel, pull the line and other etiquette tips.  Apparently there is a ton of etiquette in cycling, I can't believe it.  The leader comes from a family of racing and currently is racing at the collegiate level.  He's actually a pilot and is pursuing a masters in aviation.  In two weeks he's leading a support crew for his friend who is running the Badwater Ultramarathon which is a 135 mile race across Death Valley.

Before you dismiss the recumbent rider as a chode for riding such a retarded looking bike, he was very fast.  Those things haul ass!

  1. I don't care if he averages 30mph uphill, what a mongoloid to ride that hunk of crap. You bro down with him, he give you some insights to the wonderful world of recumbent cycling?

  2. Not sure how I missed this post. Wish I had a group where someone would formally teach me this stuff. I've had to learn it all by observation and participation. Luckily, I haven't made any critical mistakes, but I'm sure there are things I'm doing that arent't quite right.

Jason, he's only going to give recumbants "some" kudos because he knows with that crumbling back of his, he might have to be on one in 5 years.

Sure, they're fast. All they do in my mind is give non-cyclists another opportunity to tell us cyclists how stupid we look.
