Discipline shift

Today was my first ride on a road bike in 20 years.  I've been a mountain biker for a long time so this is all new to me and I'm still trying to understand the bizarro world of roadies.  I've been wanting to buy a road bike for a few years and finally had a really good excuse since I can't run.  I think this bike is going to be extremely fast.  The shifting was crisp and the frame felt stiff and responded well.  Out of the saddle I felt like I could really throw it around.  I laid off a little just in case my back had other ideas.  There is a lot of expensive gear and even more prep time associated with cycling opposed to running, but I will manage.  Here are the numbers:

ignore the shadow of the spokes on the wall

carbon fiber technology, 17 pounds with pedals
hanging in my man cave

  1. That is a really nice bike. I bet your gonna have a lot of pain and fun on it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. Is that a full ultegra groupo? Are the pedals dura ace or ultegra? I did have a really hard time getting past the shadow of the spokes. Nice blades on the wall.

  2. That's pretty fast for a first ride. You also have to remember that cycling takes a lot more time to get out what you put in as compared to running. But if you incorporate it into your daily transport options it pays off double in fitness and money. The bike looks sweet. I may have to get one when I'm there, so I can hang out on your back wheel.

  4. Beautiful ride Remus. You'll be able to lay down lots of rubber on that. We'll have to ride soon.
